Madam Justice Jasmine Akbarali

Madam Justice Jasmine Akbarali received a Bachelor of Arts from McMaster University with a major in French in 1991. She was the gold medalist of her law class at the University of Windsor in 1995. A former clerk at the Supreme Court of Canada, she was called to the Bar of Ontario in 1997. She was previously a partner at Lerners LLP in Toronto where her practiced focused on appeals in a wide range of areas and included significant pro bono work. Madam Justice Akbarali received awards including the South Asian Bar Association’s Female Lawyer of the Year award in 2009, Lexpert’s Rising Star award and the Canadian Civil Liberties Association’s award for Excellence in Law. She previously served as a Vice President of the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and a director of the George Hull Centre for Children and Families, a full-service children’s mental health centre in Etobicoke. Madam Justice Akbarali was appointed to the Superior Court of Justice in October, 2016.
