These three lawyers from the Department of Justice were actively involved in the significant amendments made to the Divorce Act. Claire Farid

Claire Farid is Director and General Counsel of the Family and Children’s Law Team, Justice Canada. The Family and Children’s Law Team is the centre of expertise for family and children’s law in the Federal Government. Claire is the federal co-chair of the Federal- Provincial- Territorial Coordinating Committee of Senior Officials – Family Justice. Claire was called to the Ontario Bar in 2000. While most of Claire’s career since then has been in family law, she has also worked as a Legal Policy Analyst with Status of Women Canada (2000-2002) and Legal Counsel with the Cabinet Affairs Unit at Justice Canada (2009-2010).

Mimi Marrello

Mimi is a graduate of the University of Ottawa where she obtained a Bachelor in Social Science (with Honours) in 1996 and her LL.B (Cum Laude) in 1999. She was called to the Bar in Ontario in 2001. Mimi has focused her practice on litigation with a specific emphasis on family law throughout her career. Mimi est née dans le Nord de l'Ontario et est une fière Franco-Ontarienne. Elle est parfaitement bilingue et possède les habiletés nécessaires pour représenter ses clients dans les deux langues officielles. Mimi est également impliquée dans plusieurs organismes à but non lucratif tel que l'Association du Barreau du compté de Carleton ainsi que l'Association des juristes d'expression française de l'Ontario (AJEFO). Mimi is a past board member of the Ottawa Family Services à la famille and is on the planning committee for the Annual Family Law Institute Conference held in Ottawa yearly. She has also taught at the University of Ottawa and the PPD program.

Marie-Josée Poirier

Marie-Josée Poirier est membre du Barreau du Québec depuis 1998. Elle a joint le Ministère de la Justice du Canada en 2006. Depuis 2007, elle travaille au sein de la Section de la politique en matière du droit de la famille et de la justice pour les jeunes du Ministère de la Justice du Canada.

Marie-Josée Poirier is a member of the Quebec Bar since 1998. She joined the Department of Justice in 2006. Since 2007, she works in the Family Law and Youth Justice Policy Section of the Department of Justice.

Andina van Isschot

Andina van Isschot is Legal Counsel with the Family Law and Youth Justice Section at the Department of Justice Canada. Ms. van Isschot is a graduate of McGill University with degrees in Common and Civil Law and a member of the Law Society of Ontario. She has an M.A. in International Development Studies, with a focus on gender and development. For over 10 years Ms. van Isschot has co-chaired Federal-Provincial-Territorial Sub-committees dealing with the reciprocal enforcement of family support orders in Canada and internationally. In 2007, she participated in The Hague Diplomatic Session on the International Recovery of Child Support and Other Forms of Family Maintenance as a member of the Delegation of Canada.
