Justice Kofi Barnes

Mr. Justice Kofi Barnes is a judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice. Justice Barnes is a former judge of the Ontario Court of Justice. A native of Ghana, Justice Barnes is the first person born on the African continent to be appointed a judge in Canada. He is a graduate of Osgoode Hall Law School. Prior to his appointment, he was a Deputy Director (Ontario Region) Federal Prosecution Service now Public Prosecution Service of Canada. Mr. Justice Barnes is the founding past President of the Canadian Association of Drug Treatment Court Professionals; founding President of the Association of Justice and Treatment Professionals and President of the International Association of Treatment Courts. In addition to his regular

judicial duties, he designs and conducts training programs on solution- focused strategies and innovative approaches to justice. Justice Barnes is the founder of the innovative Metro West Community Restoration Court in 2011 and the Durham Mental Health and Drug Treatment Court in Oshawa in 2006. Justice Barnes is the co-founder of Canada’s first Drug Treatment Court in Toronto in 1997:

Justice Barnes is the recipient of awards such as the York University Bryden Awards; the Trent University Distinguished Alumni Award; the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee Commemorative Medal and the African Canadian Achievement Awards for Excellence in Law.

Michael Owoh

Ikenna Michael Owoh was called to the Ontario Bar in 2001. He completed his Bachelor of Arts Honours Degree in Political Science and Law and Society and obtained his law degree from Osgoode Hall Law School in 1999. Since being called to the bar, Mr. Owoh has practiced almost exclusively as a criminal defence lawyer in the Greater Toronto Area and surrounding regions. He formed Owoh Law in 2015, having been a partner at a criminal law firm for over 10 years prior to that time. Mr. Owoh has many years of trial experience in both the Ontario Courts of Justice and Superior Courts of Justice. He provides both effective and passionate legal representation for all clients in his care.

 

Shauna Pemberton

Seeta Scully is an Assistant Crown Attorney in the Region of Peel. She has been with the Peel Crown Attorney’s Office for 11 years and currently holds positions as the Co-Lead for Intimate Partner Violence, and is also on the Mental Health team. Prior to working at the Peel Crown’s Office she worked at the College Park Crown Attorney’s Office, and prior to that Articled with the Crown Law Office-Criminal doing appellate work. She interned at the United Nations War Crimes Tribunal in Cambodia (the ECCC) in 2010, and worked at a student legal aid clinic during her time at Osgoode Hall Law School. She is a mother of three and is an active member of several neighbourhood community organizations, including being a member of sponsorship teams for two refugee families.

 

Paul Renwick

Justice G. Paul Renwick was appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice in Brampton. His Honour’s appointment came after 22 years as a prosecutor in Peel, York Region, and the Attorney General’s Guns and Gangs Initiative in Toronto, where he spent the last 12 years before becoming a judge. Justice Renwick has completed his Master of Laws degree, he has been published in peer-reviewed, academic journals, and he has contributed a chapter in a legal text used nation-wide by secondary school students. Notwithstanding all of his professional accomplishments and volunteer work, His Honour wants you to know that his proudest achievement is becoming a father.

Seeta Scully
