John Campion has been a force within the Canadian legal community throughout his career. He has been involved in many of the cases that have defined the interaction between Canadian business and law for four decades, from gold mines to boardrooms, from oil fields to isotopes. He has served as an Emeritus Bencher and Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada, President of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, President of the Empire Club of Canada, chair of the Audit Committee of the CBC, counsel to two Prime Ministers and much more, serving everyone from heads of state to underprivileged children during a storied career.
John Campion is nationally and internationally recognized (Chambers, Best Lawyers, Lexpert, International Who’s Who of Business Lawyers, Martindale-Hubbell) as one of Canada’s leading senior trial, appeal and arbitration counsel. He has been an elected Bencher of the Law Society of Upper Canada since 2000 and was President of the Federation of Law Societies of Canada, representing Canada’s 100,000 lawyers nationally and internationally. He has been active in his community: President of The Empire Club of Canada, counsel to the Director of the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and an adjunct professor of law, Toronto and Osgoode. He is an author of Professional Liability in Canada and publishes and lectures broadly throughout Canada and internationally.
William McNamara (Bill)'s practice involves a broad range of commercial litigation matters, with emphasis on the defence of product liability class actions, anti-trust law (price fixing, bid-rigging, misleading advertising, illegal trade practices and deceptive marketing practices), infrastructure and construction claims, banking law, insolvency, restructuring and corporate disputes.
Bill has appeared before the courts in Ontario, Québec, British Columbia and Alberta; the Competition Tribunal; the Federal Court of Canada and the Federal Court of Appeal; and numerous private arbitral panels. He is fluently bilingual in English and French, and completely at ease conducting trials or appellate advocacy in either language.
Paul practices at the small Aylmer based law firm of Gloin Hall & Shields, where his practice is what he calls a “door practice”, meaning, whatever walks through the door that isn’t criminal or family. That usually means a lot of real estate, corporate/commercial law, and wills and estates.
While attending law school Paul was a researcher for professor Richard H. McLaren, in the areas of commercial law, secured transactions, bankruptcy law, alternative dispute resolution and sport law. This gave Paul the opportunity to research and write original commentary for publication in a number of legal books including Secured Transactions in Personal Property in Canada and the Ontario Annotated Personal Property Security Act.
Prior to law school Paul operated an e-commerce solutions company and worked in the hobby industry and as a lay-minister.
When not at work, Paul plays bass guitar at his church, and has all sorts of fun with his two boys, aged 5 and 2.
