Remote Commissioning in Real Estate Transactions

Paula Puddy, HBA LLB MBA

The real estate industry continues to thrive in 2020, despite the pandemic, but we all know that new measures have changed how transactions are carried out.

In part one of this MLA Real Estate Update Matthew Wilson reviews the latest status for remote commissioning, including a review of the regulation, duties of the commissioner, potential risks, keeping adequate records and other practical tips to consider for real estate transactions.

In the second part of the update, Casey Hayward reviews issues related to wiring funds, including delays, who pays the fees, potential alternatives and using wires to discharge mortgages. He finishes his presentation with a quick review of Ontario limitation periods given the September 14, 2020 revocation of the Emergency Order.

Keeping update is important, but can be challenging when things change so quickly. This update will keep you in the know and at the top of your game!
