Gail P. Barnes

I graduated from UBC Law School in 1982 and did articles with Michael Bolton.  I was called to the bar in BC in 1983 and have worked my entire career in the Lower Mainland.  I have practiced exclusively in the area of criminal law in private practice.  Starting in approximately 1999, I started doing ad hoc work for the Crown.  My current practice includes about 50% ad hoc Crown primarily in Port Coquitlam.  I have also been appointed as a Special Prosecutor in cases where staff Crown are not able to prosecute cases.

In my private practice I represent individuals charged with all varieties of criminal offences.   Many of my cases over the years, however, have been the defence of accused persons charged with all types of sexual offences either with adult or child complainants.

My work with the Crown involves the prosecution of all types of Criminal Code offences.  I have spoken at a Crown conference on the topic of eyewitness identification.  I have also attended as a guest lecturer at training seminars for Forensic Nurse Examiners who conduct medical examinations on sexual assault complainants.
