While she has accrued experience in a broad range of litigation matters, Jessica focuses her practice on labour and employment, administrative and human rights litigation. Jessica has also worked extensively with the police law group at Perley-Robertson, advising various police services across Ontario. Jessica has appeared before the Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Court, the Ontario Court of Justice, and several administrative tribunals. She is a member of the Police Legal Advisors Committee to the Ontario Association of Chiefs of Police, and is the Vice-Chair of the Community Impact Cabinet to United Way Ottawa.
Ashley is an associate with Soloway Wright LLP. She articled with the firm in 2015 and returned as an associate upon her call to the Ontario Bar in 2016. Ashley practices primarily in the area of insurance defence, personal injury and medical malpractice. She is a graduate of Simon Fraser University and University of Ottawa Law School. While at law school, Ashley was actively involved with the Legal Aid Clinic's Landlord and Tenant Division. She also represented the University of Ottawa at the National Baseball Arbitration Competition in New Orleans, LA. Ashley recently taught Evidence Law at Algonquin College in the paralegal program and previously taught Civil Procedures I in the law clerk program. Ashley is presently the Chair of the Ontario Bar Association, Young Lawyers Division – East.
Caitlin Cardill is an associate lawyer at Nelligan O’Brien Payne, and a member of our Commercial Litigation and Wills and Estates groups. Caitlin practises as a commercial litigator and as an estate litigator. Before joining the firm, Caitlin worked at an Ottawa law firm practising civil litigation, commercial litigation, personal bankruptcy and insolvency, estate litigation, construction litigation, and real estate litigation. During her articles, she worked in civil litigation with a focus on personal injury. She has also worked at the Office of the Public Guardian and Trustee. Caitlin has appeared before Ontario’s Superior Court and Small Claims Court, as well as various boards and tribunals across Ontario. She has also assisted lead counsel at the Court of Appeal for Ontario. Outside of work, Caitlin maintains a very active lifestyle. She enjoys running, skiing, playing softball, beach volleyball, and dodgeball, international travel, and relaxing at the family cottage.
After graduating from law school in 1994, Robert was called to the bar of Ontario in 1996. In October 1996, Robert joined the law firm of Merovitz Potechin LLP and was made a partner in September 2005. Robert’s primary areas of practice are bankruptcy and insolvency and collection where he has represented numerous financial institutions, creditors, trustees in bankruptcy and debtors. Robert has written and co-written several articles on insolvency law for use in legal seminars and has spoken at various insolvency seminars. Robert is also very actively involved in the community. At the age of 32, Robert became the youngest president of the Canadian Italian Business and Professional Association of Ottawa (CIBPA). As president of CIBPA, Robert presided over the creation of the CIBPA Ottawa Scholarship Program. In addition to being a member of CIBPA, Robert was an executive member of the Ontario Bar Association Young Lawyers’ Division (the YLD) and was on the executive of the OBA’s Insolvency section. In his role as an executive on the YLD, Robert was responsible for spearheading the development of the YLD’s racial tolerance mock trial program for grade 6 students in Ottawa. From 2004 to 2008, Robert was on the Board of Directors for Villa Marconi Long Term Care Centre. He last served as its Vice President. Robert is currently on the Board of Directors of the Children’s Aid Foundation of Ottawa and he is also actively involved in his children’s lives, coaching them in both hockey and soccer for the past several years.
Calvin Hancock is an associate at the Ottawa office, practicing in the Commercial Litigation Group, with a focus on estate litigation and commercial disputes. Calvin completed his articles at BLG Ottawa before returning as an associate. Calvin received his JD from the University of Toronto in 2016. During his time at the University of Toronto, Calvin served as an advocate in the tenant housing division of Downtown Legal Services.
A fluently bilingual litigator, Shaun was called to the Bar of Ontario in 2014. Since then, he has appeared before the Ontario Superior Court, the Human Rights Tribunal of Ontario, Small Claims Court and the Landlord & Tenant Board. Shaun graduated from the University of Ottawa with a common and civil law degree. While studying, Shaun served as the President of the law students society, was on the law review and was elected a student representative on the University Senate. Shaun has an insatiable sweet tooth, especially for ice cream. When not at the office, Shaun can be found playing basketball, running along the canal or eating cookies at Boko Bakery.
Julie has a bilingual civil litigation practice in commercial, public and administrative law. She joined Conway Baxter Wilson LLP/s.r.l. in 2016 as an associate after clerking for the Honourable Jocelyne Gagné at the Federal Court. Julie has appeared in the Supreme Court of Canada, the Federal Court, and the Ontario Superior Court. She has worked on litigation matters spanning a wide range of areas, including cases of constitutional law, defamation law, and judicial review, as well as shareholder disputes, insurance coverage disputes, and customs tariff cases. Julie completed the joint J.D./M.A. (International Affairs) program at the University of Ottawa and Carleton University, respectively. Outside the firm, Julie sits on the Young Professionals Advisory Board for Cornerstone Housing for Women, and also mentors law students through the University of Ottawa Women’s Legal Mentorship Program.
